Trent Evans invited me to participate in this unique blog event, and while I was deeply complimented I wasn’t sure what I could offer. I don’t have a process, but now I’m getting ahead of myself.
He reminded me that writers are readers too, and though my writing keeps me busy and I rarely have time to pick up a book, that line struck a chord, so I decided to take a deep breath and jump into the fray.
The creator of this tour devised a list of questions. My responses will not be as comprehensive as our dear Mr. Evans (can anyone be as comprehensive as Mr. Evans?) but I’ll do my best.
What am I working on?
This is easy. The Cowboy From Down Under, the second book in my Cowboys After Dark Series.
It’s about a feisty, fearless, successful photojournalist, Emma Harrison, who travels to Australia to photograph the outback. She is taken to the middle of nowhere by Derrick Campbell, an Aussie cowboy, otherwise known as a stockman. Derrick is hired to give her the guided tour, and to keep her safe from the many dangers that lurk in Australia’s great desert, but how does a man control a woman bent on risking life and limb for the shot of a lifetime? Need I say more? 🙂
How does my work differ from others of its genre?
I agree with Trent, that each author has a unique style, and I’m a bit embarrassed to confess that I’ve read very little, due mostly to time restraints. Even so, I’m not sure I’m the one to judge, and I believe the answer to this question is best left up to the reader.
Why do I write what I do?
This I outlined when I wrote the “About Me” for my Amazon Author’s Page and have pasted it below. I can’t expand on it, or write it any better, so here you go.
I write about the Dominant/submissive dynamic, because I am a submissive, and having experienced the thrills and spills that D/s romance offers, I don’t just feel qualified to do so, but I am truly, deeply and wholly passionate about the lifestyle. Every second of every day it’s on my mind and in my heart, which, by the way, has been shattered into a thousand tiny pieces, and made shining and whole and filled with joy. Such are the highs and lows Dominance and submission can bring.
Having tried and failed with vanilla relationships, during which I was constantly frustrated and unfulfilled, I came to an understanding and acceptance that vanilla simply doesn’t work for me. If you read my blog you can learn more about the addiction to this lifestyle, and while every interaction is unique, each share one truism; the submissive wants and needs the romantic domination of her man, and the Dominant wants and needs the gift of submission his girl offers.
How does your writing process work?
As I mentioned above, I don’t have a process. An idea pops into my head, and I start writing. By the time I’ve finished the first chapter my characters are alive and their story is unfolding.
I attended a creative writing class once, and the teacher asked that we follow certain guidelines. After the second class I had to leave; it was painfully frustrating.
If I had to analyze what I do, I think it’s that I stay out of the way and let my characters take me on their journey.
